Forming An Oppurtunity Belief

The opportunity I believe exists is that there are long lines for advising in the College of Journalism PATH office. As a student assistant in the office, I see first hand on a daily basis what the lines are like there. The unmet need is that students need to meet with their advisors. The people who have this need the most are students in the College of Journalism. This problem is not new, but it has gotten worse as more and more students are admitted to the college while the amount of advisors available to see them has gone down. To meet this need, some students are trying to come to the office earlier to try to beat the rush, while advisors are trying to limit how much time they speak to each student. I talked to three students about their experiences waiting in line at the office. Do you like going to advising? "I mean I don't like it but I don't mind it." What situations make you go? "I always go during Add/Drop, but other than that it's kinda r...

My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
My experience with entrepreneurship is limited. However, in senior year of high school, we had a project where we needed to create our own product/service and "sell" it to the other students. My group of three wanted to solve a problem that we noticed a lot of students had: forgetting a phone/computer charger at home. We got a large supply of chargers and set up a booth in which students could come and rent a charger from us. We also added the ability to have a charger delivered to any classroom they needed for an additional fee. To entice costumers to come to us, we also gave everyone who we rented to a piece of candy, and we called ourselves "Sweet Power." It was a fun project overall that I enjoyed doing, and I felt I gained valuable business/entrepreneurship experience from it. This was one of our first drafts from when we originally came up with the idea. Personally, I enrolled in this course for a few reasons. As a Telecom major, I am required to do an ou...

Bug List

1. Moving items around on my calendar app takes way more time/clicks than it should Why: The app tries to make adding new events easy, but that makes editing/moving previously made events much more difficult. While you would assume you could highlight all events and move them around, when you try to do that it creates new events instead. 2. When people fill out Contact Cards but leave basic information out. For example, writing only their house number and street and leave out their city and state. Why: People probably read the card quickly and try to get it filled out quickly so they unintentionally skip over necessary information 3. People who walk extremely slowly and fill up the whole sidewalk so I can't walk around them Why: People walk at different speeds and want to talk to their friends while they walk, so they tend to slow down. They also aren't really concerned with who is walking behind them. 4. When people who order food/drink after me at a restaurant/cof...
